Parent Involvement Committee

Under the Ministry of Education's Parent Engagement Policy, all school boards are required to have a Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) comprised of a majority of parents that is directly linked to the Director of Education and Trustees.

The purpose of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is to:

• support, encourage, and enhance meaningful parental involvement within schools and across the district;
• seek advice and ideas of school councils and other parents and partners as they plan and implement strategies to involve more parents at the regional level;
• work collaboratively with the school board;
• develop strategies for increasing parental engagement and outreach, including parents who find involvement more challenging; and
• support student success.

Participants provide a valuable service to our school community as a support system, as an advisory group, and as a forum where educational topics and issues are investigated with a focus on parent engagement.

Another way to get involved with the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is by joining the 2SLGBTQIA+ Focus Group, a sub-committee of the Limestone District School Board PIC. This group of parents and caregivers is dedicated to promoting and maintaining safe, caring, and inclusive schools for 2SLGBTQIA+ students and their families. The focus group meets monthly, either online or in a hybrid format, throughout the school year. Together, they listen to feedback from students, families, and other education partners, advocate to the school board, and host events that support students and families.

Meetings are hosted at the Limestone District School Board Education Centre at 220 Portsmouth Avenue, beginning at 6:00 p.m., unless otherwise stated.

PIC Co-Chair Election:

Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) Co-Chair Elections are scheduled for the first PIC meeting on Thursday October 23, 2025. If you wish to apply, nominations are due by Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 4:00 pm, and must be accompanied by a short biography (maximum 250 words).

An ideal PIC Co-Chair will be an active and engaged participant in the Board’s PIC as well as their school with the school and board-specific background necessary to effectively guide the various activities of the PIC. If a Co-Chair candidate does not meet these qualifications, the PIC membership may choose, via the normal voting process, to move forward with an election or to extend the advertisement for Co-Chair candidates by a period of two weeks, after which an election will be held.
