Discover Kindergarten

At Limestone, our Kindergarten program, offered in both English and French, is designed to nurture the whole child and build strong foundations for lifelong learning. Children learn in welcoming, responsive environments that support their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development through intentional teaching, active learning, and meaningful daily experiences.

The Ontario Kindergarten curriculum (2026) helps children build strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social-emotional learning, supporting their growth as confident, curious, and capable learners for the future. Through a blend of intentional teaching and meaningful play- and inquiry-based experiences, children explore, practise, and develop their skills in engaging and purposeful ways. Clear learning expectations guide this process, helping educators support each child in developing and applying new knowledge and skills in everyday classroom experiences.

In the revised 2026 Ontario Curriculum, Kindergarten learning is organized into four strands:

• Foundations of Language and Mathematics
• Problem Solving and Innovating
• Self-Regulation and Well-Being
• Belonging and Contributing

These strands reflect the integrated nature of learning in the early years and support growth across academic, social, emotional, and physical development.

Learning in kindergarten occurs both indoors and outdoors and follows a flexible flow of the day. Educators intentionally connect learning across the four strands so that children build knowledge and skills in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways.

The Limestone Kindergarten program combines intentional instruction, play-based learning, and responsive environments with diverse learning opportunities to support every child’s growth. Through these experiences, children develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become engaged, confident, and capable learners. In Limestone, children succeed and belong.
