Grade 11 Health Care and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) students from Napanee District Secondary School (NDSS) participated in an immersive learning experience recently at the Clinical Simulation Centre at Queen’s University, located in the New Medical Building.

During the visit, students engaged in hands-on training using advanced simulation equipment and high-fidelity manikins. They practiced key clinical skills including, taking and interpreting vital signs, conducting focused patient assessments, casting techniques, neonatal care, and sterile techniques.

Through guided activities with simulation facilitators, students explored how to assess patient conditions and gained a deeper understanding of the body’s compensatory responses to illness and injury.

This experiential learning opportunity provided students with valuable insight into post-secondary health care training and supported their exploration of future careers in the medical field.

Many thanks to everyone at the Queen’s Simulation Lab who helped make this opportunity possible.
