Student Census: Mental Health, Substance Use, and Addictions Supports for Students
If you need help right now, you can:
- If you are at home, tell your parent or guardian, or another trusted adult
- If you are at school, tell a staff member at your school
- If you are having thoughts of suicide, call the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 988

If you would like to talk to someone about mental health or substance use and can wait a while, you can ask about these supports at school:
- If you are in Grade 9 to 12:
- You can ask to see an Adolescent Care Worker (ACW) or Social Worker by using this link
- You can ask at Student Services to see the Kairos counsellor if you are concerned about substance use
 
- If you are Grade 7 or 8:
- Your school has a Student Support Counsellor that you can ask to see
- If you go to GREC, Rideau Heights, Molly Brant, Ernestown Intermediate, LaSalle Intermediate, Module Vanier, Module de l'Acadie, or NAEC: Your school has a Social Worker that you can ask to see
 
You can also try these resources:
- Kids Help Phone (kidshelpphone.ca) has lots of information on different mental health topics, ways to connect with other youth in the same situation as you, and ways to find resources in your community.
- Hope for Wellness Helpline (hopeforwellness.ca) (1-855-242-3310 or hopeforwellness.ca) can help you find Indigenous resources in your area. You can receive support in Cree, Anishinaabemowin (Ojibway) or Inuktitut (but you might have to wait until a language speaker is available).
- The Black Youth Helpline (1-833-8650 or blackyouth.ca) can connect you with supports specific to Black youth and families.
- LGBT Youthline (youthline.ca) is a peer support service for 2SLGBTQ+ youth that you can context by text (647-694-4275) or live chat on their website. All volunteers are trained peer supporters aged 16 to 29 with diverse 2SLGBTQ+ identities and experiences.
- School Mental Health Ontario (smho-smso.ca/students) has a student portal with lots of tips and resources, including supports for newcomers.
- If you are concerned about someone else's mental health or substance use, try Be There by Jack.org. This website helps you understand how to support a friend and how to take care of yourself while you do it.
