* Students registered with the Secondary Virtual School should be checking their LDSB Outlook email account at least once per day.
Technical Resources/Support
Students and parents/guardians are asked to please review the video conferencing guides (right-hand menu) in advance. Students and families are also encouraged to review the Technical Support document (right-hand menu) and visit the Virtual School/Remote Learning Technology Support webpage If students are having difficulty logging in, are new to Limestone, or require technical support, please contact our ITS team at 613-417-3559 Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Devices
It is recommended that you have access to a device that has a working camera and microphone so that students can participate during virtual meetings. A Chromebook, laptop (PC or Mac), desktop computer or tablet/iPad are all suitable devices. If you do not have access to a device, please contact the Secondary Virtual School by email or call 613-542-7369. The distribution of technology will be facilitated through the Secondary Virtual School.
Internet Access
Internet access will be provided to students who are learning remotely and do not currently have access (where service is available). If you do not have access to internet, please contact the Secondary Virtual School by email or call 613-542-7369. We will work with you to coordinate a suitable solution (e.g. an Internet Hotspot) if required.
Secondary Virtual School Structure:
Grade 9 and 10:
The Grade 9 and 10 program uses a synchronous model of teaching and learning characterized by live class sessions. Morning classes run between 8:30-11 a.m. and afternoon teachers run between 12-2:30 p.m. Students are expected to be prepared for the day's learning and to be logged in at the start of their morning and afternoon classes. Secondary Virtual School daily announcements will be shared by teachers at the start of each morning class. Classes will begin with the teacher overviewing the tasks and timelines for the day, checking in on students' progress, answering any questions students might have, etc. Students will then work on assignments, participate in class activities, collaborate with peers through group work, and conference with their teacher. Students are expected to spend at least 5 to 7 hours per school day (both online and offline) working on their courses. Students are encouraged to keep caught up, and to let their teacher know as soon as possible if they are falling behind. Teachers will share their contact information with students and families.

Grade 11/12 Courses
The vast majority of courses being offered to Grade 11 and 12 SVS students are e-Learning courses provided through the e-Learning Consortium.
Unlike Grade 9 and 10 SVS courses which have synchronous or live teaching/class time, e-Learning courses are asynchronous, and students work through them as directed by their teacher over the course of a semester. Teachers may also embed some synchronous components such as group work, study groups, tutorials, teacher/student conferencing, or class chats. It is critical that students work on their e-Learning courses each school day in order to stay current with the material and due dates. If students start to fall behind they should reach out to their teacher as soon as possible for assistance. Students should be checking their LDSB Outlook email for notification updates about course registrations with the e-Learning Consortium.

Course descriptions are available in the Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 to 12 document.
