KFL&A Public Health has notified the Limestone District School Board of positive cases of COVID-19 at the following area schools for the week of October 25, 2021:

  • KFL&A Public Health has identified a positive case in a student at Molly Brant Elementary School on Oct. 28: One class cohort and one bus cohort is isolating. The school remains open.
  • Ongoing investigation of the COVID-19 outbreak at R.G. Sinclair by KFL&A Public Health reveals transmission is occurring outside of the school environment (i.e., unstructured play activities, play dates, etc.). Out of an abundance of caution, KFL&A Public Health is recommending the entire school population be tested for COVID-19. Public Health has now identified a total of 12 cases of COVID-19 at R.G. Sinclair: four student cases on Oct. 27, five student cases on Oct. 26, two student cases on Oct. 25 and one staff case  on Oct. 24. Given evidence of school spread, KFL&A Public Health declared an outbreak on Oct. 25. The school remains open, however, visitors are restricted at this time.
  • KFL&A Public Health has identified one student at Rideau Heights Public School on Oct. 27, 2021: One class has been dismissed and is isolating and following direction from public health. The school remains open.
  • KFL&A Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at J.G. Simcoe Public School. This outbreak is related to spread in the Grade 1/2 class that was already isolating. Although there are currently five positive cases in students at the school, only two are outbreak related. The school remains open and safe.
  • KFL&A Public Health has identified one staff member at Loyalist Collegiate & Vocational Institute on Oct. 27, 2021: One class has been dismissed and is isolating and following direction frompublic health. The school remains open.
  • KFL&A Public Health has identified one student at Lord Strathcona Public School on Oct. 27, 2021: One class has been dismissed and is isolating and following direction fropublic health. The school remains open.

In cases where it has been determined that there is no risk to students or staff, cohorts are not required to isolate and the schools will remain open.

Instances when a positive case in a school poses no risk to the school include:

  • The case(s) is learning or teaching virtually and has not been in the school.
  • The case(s) was already isolating and not attending school because they were previously identified as a close contact of a case.
  • The case(s) was not present at the school when they were infectious.

KFL&A Public Health works closely with schools to ensure that necessary steps are taken to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community.

All families should continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and screen students daily as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting.

Cases in schools must be reported locally and provincially. We are sharing this information with you to ensure you have accurate information. No further information will be released to maintain privacy.
