Update April 10, 2021: KFL&A Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Lord Strathcona Public School following the identification of a second positive case. There is no additional risk to the school.

The second positive case was identified in a student on April 9, 2021. The first case was identified in a student on April 5, 2021.

As per provincial Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education guidance, an outbreak is declared in a school once it has been determined that two individuals have tested positive with an epidemiological link (e.g., these students/staff could have become infected with COVID-19 at school, either from each other or a common source).

High-risk contacts (students in the Grade 4/5 classroom, those who ride Bus 225, and identified staff) and their household members must continue to isolate.

  • It is required that high-risk contacts have a COVID-19 test on or after day 10 (April 11, 2021). If this required testing is not done, isolation will be extended an extra 10 days.
  • High-risk contacts must isolate for the full 14 days (midnight on April 15, 2021) even if this test result is negative.
  • Household members only need to be tested if they have symptoms.

Students and staff who are not in the Grade 4/5 classroom and who do not ride Bus 225 and who were not phoned by KFL&A Public Health can stop isolating.

  • Please follow the provincial stay-at-home order, and only go out for essential reasons (including work, school, and exercise).
  • Do not have close contact with people who do not live in your home.
  • Continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
If anyone in your household has or develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must self-isolate and should book an appointment at an assessment centre for testing as soon as possible. It is required that all household members isolate until the person with symptoms receives a negative COVID-19 test result or an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional.
  • If you have been called by KFL&A Public Health, please follow the directions provided during that call.

KFL&A Public Health Notice to School Community: April 10, 2021

April 5, 2021: KFL&A Public Health has ordered the temporary closure of Lord Strathcona Public School following the identification of a positive case of COVID-19 in a student at the school.

Because COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOC) are now in our community and can spread more easily, Public Health is taking additional precautions to help reduce spread. As a result,
Lord Strathcona PS will close temporarily for the week of April 6 to 9, 2021. In-person classes will switch to remote learning. The school will be in touch with families directly about plans for device distribution where required.

Everyone who attended or worked at Lord Strathcona PS on March 31 or April 1, 2021 must self-isolate until they hear otherwise. KFL&A Public Health will provide families with more direction after additional investigation has been done

All members of the school community have been notified and have been provided with direction from Public Health. KFL&A Public Health is working with the school to identify cohorts of students and staff who may be at risk of COVID-19 from this exposure. Not all students will be affected by this situation.

KFL&A Public Health, the schools and board are taking all necessary steps to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community. Everyone should continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and screen students daily as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting.

Thank you for your understanding and adherence to all public health directives to help ensure student and staff safety.

Please visit the COVID-19 Confirmed Cases webpage for a list of current cases. There are currently six active cases of COVID-19 in Limestone.
