Skills competitions encourage youth to consider a career in the skilled trades and technologies. Through programs and initiatives such as in-school presentations, local and regional qualifying and provincial skills competitions, we are able to inform and engage our students to the fulfilling world of skilled trades and technologies.

The annual Limestone Skills Competition includes a broad range of occupations such as carpentry, baking, graphic design, welding etc. There are 19 secondary competitions and eight elementary competitions. Industry judges help assess students based on set scopes of criteria.

2019 Limestone Skills Competition

March 6, 2019: Napanee District Secondary School will host competitions in Auto Collision, Paint and Automotive Service.

March 22, 2019: St. Lawrence College and Bayridge Secondary School will host the remaining competitions involving more than 250 elementary and secondary students competing in 19 secondary and eight elementary competitions from three different school boards. New this year is the addition of Brick Masonry and Heavy Equipment Technician demonstrations during the March 22 event at St. Lawrence College. These events will allow students to sample and explore these trades. Next year, these two events will become part of the skills competitions.

Families and spectators are invited to visit either day/locations and watch the competitions.

Gold medal winners from both days will move onto the Skills Ontario competition held in May in Toronto which features more than 2,100 students competing for medals in 68 diverse contest areas. The provincial event also includes a Career Exploration Showcase, with over 70 interactive displays where you can meet with industry, college, government and labour representatives to get information about training and job opportunities.

The Limestone District School Board is situated on traditional territories of the Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee.
