STREETSMART is an alternative to regular high school program for youth in downtown Kingston. Students can refer themselves or be referred by any school or agency in the community. Youth (primarily 16 to 20 years of age) earn Ontario secondary school credits at STREETSMART. Most credits are delivered through independent learning materials. Students are supported on site by three full-time secondary school teachers and a full-time educational assistant, a KAIROS Counsellor. In addition, breakfast, lunch and snacks are available and every Wednesday at 12:00 a hot lunch is served free of charge. Generally, 112 students are enrolled and approximately 35 students graduate each year. Continuous entry,
one-on-one support, flexibility, and self-pacing allow for accommodation of students with special circumstances and learning needs. Students wanting to register must call to make an appointment.
Hours of operation 9:45 am - 2:30 pm. All school holidays apply. |
