Student Success Parents & Students Pathways

Pathway - Workplace Some students will choose to go to work directly after high school.  These students will receive on the job training and remain in the workplace or return to school for more education and training.  Schools offer program to prepare students for the world of work.  Specific courses and program pathways provide students with the opportunities to learn the essential skills necessary for the workplace.  Some of the programs available to students are… Grade 9 – Take Our Kids to Work Experiential learning opportunities in courses Guidance/Career Studies and other workplace training courses Fast Track to the Workplace OYAP   Sample Workplace Placements Arts Program Picture Framer Set Designer Recommended Courses Cooperative education placement in area of interest Trades Programs Locksmith Painter Recommended Courses Cooperative education placement in area of interest Health Programs Home Care Worker Hospital Service Worker Recommend Courses Cooperative education placement in area of interest   Service Programs Cook’s Helper Cashier Recommended Courses Cooperative education placement in area of interest General Program Requirements Fast Facts - OSSD – Ontario Secondary School Diploma - Grade 12 English - Research essential skills required for your workplace of choice - Getting Started Prepare your resume and cover letter - Get Experience: Register for high school cooperative education programs - Local Employers: Research local employers using “Job Connect” assistance (see below) - Apply: Complete application process including application forms and resumes - Support: Contact your counselor for assistance with all the above.
