LESSA VOLLEYBALL
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
- Divisions
1,2 & 3 -
$50 per team
- Divisions 4,5 &

- Cost for referees
and minor officials for championship games played in the evening will be
shared among the 8 teams in divisions 1,2 & 3
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Ontario Volleyball Association rules apply as
adapted by OFSSA, 1999 and as modified
below
- matches will be: best of 3 in round robin play,
semi-final and finals matches except when the
championship game is played in the evening in which case it will be best of 5.
- all games EXCEPT 3rd game in 2 out of 3 or 5th game
in 3 out of 5 will be rally point
to 25 - no cap -team must win by 2 points
- the 3rd game in 2 out of 3 or the 5th game in 3 out
of 5 will be rally point to 15 - no cap
- team must win by 2 points
- 12 substitutions per game - substitutions are
married with the exception of the libero - see libero rules
- ie. if A is substituted for B then A and B are married and can only sub for each other
- libero can be used this year and will be evaluated
at the end of the season
- rules for libero
- substitutions (O.V.A. RULES) must be requested
through the umpire or referee, if no
umpire is being used. There has been a rule change by the OVA - "Serving:
a player has
eight (8) seconds to serve the ball once signaled by the referee to do so,
however
NO second attempts will be permitted." This rule has NOT BEEN
ADOPTED by
LESAA this year. Servers will still be allowed two attempts to serve. It is a loss of serve
if a player tosses a ball on a overhand serve and catches it before it
touches the floor. Players
should know
that this OVA rule will be used if they play next year at the high
school level.
- all questions to the referee MUST go through the
Floor captain
- misconduct or inappropriate behaviour by players, coaches
or spectators will be handled by the
convener not the high school referees. The referees are asked to speak with
the convener
if a problem arises with a player or coach. In this situation :
- the game will be stopped
- the coach will be asked to deal with problem (or
convenor will speak to coach)
- if a parent is involved, the convenor will speak
to parent
- if problem still persists, high school staff
will be involved
- at no time is the game to continue while the
problem persists
- uniforms with numbers are required

SPECIAL RULES:
- net height will be 214 cm
(7') for both boys and girls.
- both the referee and umpire will have the authority
to make calls.
- seeding for a tournament will be set by the coaches
of that division
- for each tournament teams will be placed into
Division A and B as follows:
- Division A - seed # 1,4,5,8
- Division B - seed # 2,3,6,7
- medals will be awarded to the first and second place
teams
- up to 15 medals will be awarded per team
- additional medals may be ordered through the
convener
TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE:
TWO WAY TIE:
The match between the two tied teams will decide the
placing.
THREE WAY TIE:
1. If one team has defeated the other two teams, this
team will receive the upper most position. The match between the other two
teams will decide their positions.
2. a) Check the
record OF GAMES with the three teams involved. The team with the best
record advances.
b) If
the teams are tied for TWO playoff spots:
- the team with
the best record in 2 a) will get the top spot AND THE MATCH BETWEEN THE
OTHER TWO will determine the other position.

Team 2 is awarded first place and the winner of match between
1 & 3
determines 2nd and 3rd
- If one team has more losses than the other two, that
team is eliminated and the march
between the remaining two determines first and second.

Team 2 is eliminated and the winner of the match between
1 & 3 determines 1st and 2nd place
c) If the teams
are tied for ONE playoff spot:
- the team with the worst record in 2 a) is
eliminated and the match between the two remaining teams will
determine their positions.

Team 2 is eliminated and the match between Team 1
& 3 will decide who gets the final
playoff spot.
- If one team has fewer losses than the other two,
that team will get the final play off spot. Team 1
would get the final playoff spot.

Team 2 & 3 are eliminated and Team 1 gets the
final playoff spot.
3. If the three tied teams have lost the same
number of games, the points against IN THE MATCHES INVOLVING THE THREE TEAMS
will be used . The team with the least number of points scored against them
will have the better record. If two places are to be decided the team with
the best record will get the top spot AND THE MATCH BETWEEN THE OTHER TWO
will determine the other position. If ONE playoff spot is to be decided, the
team with the worst record in 2 a) is eliminated and the match between the
two remaining teams will determine their positions.
