LIMESTONE DISTRICT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION (LESAA)
TRACK & FIELD MEET
GENERAL INFORMATION
NOTE: The information presented here
is for the Limestone District (LESSA) meet. This will differ from regional meets
especially in
- setting up heats and timed finals
(since the times for the LESSA track and field meets are known and they can
be seeded properly)
- selection of competitors for the
100 m and 200 m finals (the numbers of heats for these at the LESSA meets
are always the same while they will differ in each regional meet according
to the number of schools)
EVENTS AND AGE CATEGORIES
- MIDGET BOYS AND GIRLS:
- 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500 m, 4x100 m
relay,
shot put, long jump, triple jump, high jump
- BANTAM BOYS AND GIRLS:
- 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m,4x100m
relay,
long jump, triple jump, high jump
- ATOM BOYS AND GIRLS:
- 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m,4x100m
relay, long jump, triple jump, high jump
- SPECIAL EVENTS:
- 100m &
200M wheelchair raceS - OPEN- boys and
girls (if necessary)
- girls 3000m - OPEN
- boys 3000m - OPEN
- 4 x 400m relay - OPEN MIXED 2 boys and 2 girls may run in any
order
AGE CATEGORIES:
All competitors are expected to compete in their
own age category. However competitors who choose
to move up to a higher age category will be classified as being in that
category FOR ALL EVENTS (including relays). A
competitor will be DISQUALIFIED for competing in ANY lower age category.
NUMBER OF ENTRANTS PER EVENT FOR DISTRICT
MEET:
-
Each region is entitled to send:
-
FIVE entrants in each
INDIVIDUAL track AND field event advance from each region
EXCEPT for the
region that has the first meet of the year - they will
send four competitors
-
TWO relay teams PER AGE CLASS in
the 4 x 100m relay
-
a total of TWO 4 x 400 open mixed
relay teams
-
only ONE relay team from a school may advance in each
age/sex region
-
POINT OF EMPHASIS FOR
DISTANCE EVENTS:
Coaches are reminded of the importance of
athletes being PROPERLY CONDITIONED
for all events but especially the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m.
NUMBER OF EVENTS PER ATHLETE:
An athlete may enter a maximum of THREE
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS and TWO RELAYS.
The events may be 3 track OR 3 field or any
combination thereof..
AWARDS:
- Individual points will be
awarded on a 7-5-3-1 basis.
- Individual points will be
awarded for all INDIVIDUAL EVENTS including the 3000m
OPEN EVENTS. No points are awarded for 4x100m and 4x400m
relays.
- Medals will be awarded to the
top competitor IN EACH AGE CATEGORY. If a tie exists BOTH
COMPETITORS will receive the same medal. This will NOT
eliminate medals in the remaining categories. This means
that it is possible to have multiple medal winners for 1st,
2nd and 3rd .
SPECTATORS :
Competitors who participated in
the regional meets ARE WELCOME to attend the county meet (reward?)
at the discretion of the school principal. All other
students are NOT TO ATTEND.
TRACK INFORMATION:
- In any race a competitor is
not allowed to receive assistance in any form (pacing,
lap times, etc) from any non-officials unless they are in
the stands. This applies to coaches and spectators . One
warning will be given to the coach of the school involved.
Any further assistance given to that competitor OR ANY
OTHER COMPETITOR FROM THAT SCHOOL will result in
disqualification of the competitor involved.
- For ALL lane races (100m,
200m, 400m, 4 x 100m relay) runners will be
SEEDED as follows :
a) In the 100m and 200m heats
all runners will be ranked according to the times in
their regional meets. The runners will be placed in lanes
according to their ranking as follows:

b) In the 400m timed finals all
runners will be rank according to times from the regional
meets with the 8 fastest times in the 3rd
timed final, the next 8 fastest times in 2nd
timed final and the remainder in the 1st timed
final. The runners in each timed final should be seeded
according to the chart below.

c) In the 800m the FIRST and
SECOND place competitor from each region will run in 1st
timed final and the THIRD and FOURTH place competitor
will run in 2nd timed final. The curve will be
used to start the 800m.
3. The start of the 1500m is at
the end of the first 100m (corner). There will be no
staggered start as this races is NOT RUN IN LANES.
4. The 3000m is started in the
same place as the 200m. Again the curve used as the race
is not run in lanes.
5. In the FINAL for the 100m AND
200m the top 2 from each heat plus the next 2 best times
advance to the finals. (This may be different in regional
meets where there is more or less than 3 heats.). In the
100m and 200m finals, the competitors will be seeded as
in 2 (b) above.
FIELD EVENTS:
- Only the TOP FOUR 4
COMPETITORS from each region in BOTH TRACK AND FIELD will
advance to the county meet REGARDLESS OF TIES..
- TRACK EVENTS TAKE PRECEDENT
OVER FIELD EVENTS. A competitor who is called for a track
and a field event AT THE SAME TIME should report to the
official of the field event and inform him that he/she is
to participate in a track event. In order that all
competitors get a chance to complete their field events,
he/she will be allowed to return and complete their jumps/throw.
In the HIGH JUMP the bar CANNOT BE LOWERED and any
competitor returning from a track event MUST TAKE HIS OR
HER JUMPS AT THE CURRENT HEIGHT OF THE BAR It will be up
to the convener to determine if a competitor has taken an
unreasonable amount of time.
- In the shot put, triple jump
and long jump after three attempts the TOP EIGHT
COMPETITORS will be given a further three attempts. The
placing will be decided on THE BEST OVERALL
RESULTS (i.e. -.the best of the six attempts).
- For the shot put, triple jump
and long jump TIES ARE BROKEN by examining the SECOND
BEST ATTEMPTS. If this fails to break the tie use the
THIRD BEST ATTEMPTS. etc.
- High Jump Starting Heights:
- Midget Boys - 130 cm
starting height - 140 cm for second round then 5 cm or 2 cm for
subsequent round at the discretion of the of the meet official
- Midget Girls - 1.25 cm
starting height - 1.30 cm for second round then 5 cm or 2 cm 2 cm for
subsequent round at the discretion of the of the meet official
- Bantam Girls and Boys - 100 cm starting
height - 5 cm to 130 cm - then at the discretion of the meet official
- Atom Girls and Boys - - 90 cm starting
height - 5 cm to 1.25 cm - then at the discretion of the meet official
- TIES IN THE HIGH JUMP will be
decided as follows:
a) The competitor with the
lowest number of jumps at which the ties occurred shall
be awarded the higher place.
b) If a tie still exists the
competitor with the lowest number of misses THROUGHOUT
THE COMPETITION up to and including the last height
cleared shall be awarded the higher standing.
c) If the tie still remains
after (b) AND concerns FIRST place the following
procedure shall apply.- the competitors involved get
ONE more jump at the height at which they failed.- the height of the bar will be
lowered or raised to heights announced by the Chief Judge.
This will continue until the tie is broken.- competitors shall-jump in the same order as in
the competition proper-jump EACH TIME THE BAR IS
ALTERED
d) If the tie concerns any other
place than first place, the competitors shall be awarded
the same placing in the competition.
- FOR HIGH JUMP, TRIPLE JUMP
AND LONG JUMP:
a) Before the event starts
practice runs will be allowed.
b) A practice run up will be
allowed during competition to a maximum of THREE.
c) In high jump, three refusals
at any height will constitute a miss.
RELAYS:
a) GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Two relay teams may be entered
from each region - only ONE team from a school may
advance in each age/sex region.
- All relay teams are to be
composed of students attending the school the relay team
represents. Two or more schools may NOT COMBINE to form
one team,
- If a baton is dropped in any
relay the runner who is carrying the baton IS THE ONLY
ONE WHO CAN PICK IT UP AND the runner may then CONTINUE
THE RACE provided they have not interfered with another
runner.
- runners MUST STAY IN THEIR
LANES even AFTER THE BATON IS PASSED. Any interference
with runners in other lanes will result in a TEAM
DISQUALIFICATION.
b) 4 x 100m RELAY:
- there are three exchange zones.
- the exchange zones are 20m in
length.
- the passing of the baton must
be complete before the baton crosses the end of the
exchange zone.
- proceeding each exchange zone
is an acceleration zone. This is to let the outgoing
runner build up speed BEFORE THE EXCHANGE. A
DISQUALIFICATION will result if the baton is passed in
this area.
- at each exchange zone is a
judge who will answer any questions prior to the start of
the race.
c) 4 x 400m RELAY:
- this relay will use the same
starting positions as the 800m. Each relay team will be
assigned a lane and must stay in that lane FOR THE FIRST
500m. The first exchange must take place in the assigned
lanes.
- THE SECOND RUNNER MAY CUT TO
THE INSIDE after he/she has completed 100m (the first
corner).
- exchange zones are all located
near the start-finish line. The exchange zones are 2Om
long. After the first exchange the lead runner gets the
inside lane.
