RULES FOR BASKETBALL
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Divisions:
- Division are made up in September based on
boys and girls intermediate population
- Based on population, schools are put into
divisions starting with the smallest schools in division 6.
- A division will not have less than 6 schools
competing.
- If a division has eight teams a false double
knockout schedule will be used.
- If there are less than eight teams, two
division will be used.
- A division will not have less than 6 teams.
- Each team will be guaranteed 3 games with
either schedule.
- A team control foul (for example a
moving screen) is always a non shooting foul (that is treat in the same
manner as a charge).
- medals will be awarded to the top
two teams
- 15 medals will be awarded to each
team
- extra medals may be ordered through
the convener.
- uniforms with numbers front and
back are recommended
- National Federation Rules will be
used.
SPECIAL RULES FOR NON-CHAMPIONSHIP
PLAY and finals played at the end of the tournament
- same day
- 20 mm halves- stop time in the LAST MINUTE of EACH HALF - see exception below
- bonus on the 6th foul - bonus is
one shot PLUS an additional shot IF THE FIRST IS MADE -
shooting foul is an automatic 2 shots
- an adults referee will be provided for each court
- 3 time outs per game - two in any
half (time stopped)
- The following rules were voted on and adopted
for 2005:
-
if a team is leading by 20 points
or more they cannot press (that is - they must pick up their checks or set up
their zone in their own half)
- if a team is leading by 25
points or more then the clock will not stop in the last minute of play
-
when playing cross court
the center line will be the 10 second line (a team has 10 sec to advance the
ball across this line) - once across the over and back line will be the foul
line
- in an effort to allow some time
between the last round of the round robin an the semi-final games,
half time
will consist of 2 mins and games will start immediately after the preceeding game is
finished. Please make sure parents understand that the times on the schedule may
be off by 15- 30 mins.
- The following rules were voted on and adopted
at the AGM for Sept, 2008:
- the use of the three point line in
championship games be eliminated permanently from LESAA competitions, was
carried unanimously.
- In the interest of developing young players
man to man defense is encouraged and zone defense is strongly discouraged
- overtime -3 min - stop time in last
minute
- one extra time out granted to each
team
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: - if
played in the evening
- 8 minute quarters stop time
- bonus on the 7th foul
- 5 time outs per game
- 5 minutes at half
- 3 min overtime if needed (stop time)
- BALL SIZES: - size 6 for girls and
boys
- Two association referees will be provided for each
game
TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE:
TWO WAY TIE:
Use the game between the two tied
teams
THREE WAY TIE:
1. If one team has defeated the
other two that team advances.
2. If second place still is to be decided use the game between
the two remaining teams.
3. THREE WAY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE: Use the point differential (for
- against) in games INVOLVING THE TIED TEAMS to select the FIRST
PLACE team. The GAME BETWEEN THE OTHER TWO will decide second
place.
4. THREE WAY TIE FOR SECOND PLACE: Use the point difference to
eliminate the bottom team. THE GAME BETWEEN THE REMAINING TWO
will determine second place.
5. If the point differential is the same for all three teams,
choose five players from each team and shoot sets of five foul
shots - one per player. If the tie remains continue using the
SAME OR ALTERNATE PLAYERS at the coach's discretion
