Naming

Help us name our new school graphic. The Integration Committee for Kingston’s new intermediate and secondary school is reaching out to our school communities for suggestions on what the new campus should be named.

Students, families, staff and the broader community are being asked to provide suggestions on the name for the school that will bring together students from the former Queen Elizabeth Collegiate & Vocational Institute (QECVI) and Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute (KCVI). Module Vanier, our Grade 7 and 8 intermediate French Immersion School, will relocate to the new school building and retain its current name.

Suggestions can be submitted online here.

Entries should:
• represent names of famous Canadians of local or national recognition, and other names that reflect the positive image of our community and of the Limestone District School Board;
• not duplicate the name of an existing school building or site within the Limestone District School Board; and
• not use the names of present Board members and staff members; or other living persons.

“We have involved our students, staff and families in aspects of the new school including the building design and the transition of students in preparation for the new school,” says Krishna Burra, Superintendent of Education. “We are inviting thoughtful suggestions for consideration by the committee that will reflect the spirit of the new school.”

The deadline for submissions is October 13. All entries will be reviewed by the New School Integration Committee which will shortlist submissions and resubmit these suggestions for additional public input. While the selection process will not be based on a vote, the committee would like to be able to report which options drew broadest support.

A final shortlist will be provided to the Board of Trustees for consideration in the new year. Trustees will make the final name selection in February or March.
