Literacy
Literacy remains a crucial skill for success in every career pathway. The skills of literacy are embedded in each of our curricula and teachers consider themselves teachers of literacy.
Student literacy is evaluated by the Educational Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) in Grades 3 and 6, and finally in Grade 10. The purpose of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in Grade 10 is to ensure that students have acquired the essential reading and writing skills that apply to all subject areas in the provincial curriculum up to the end of Grade 9. All students in public and private schools who are working toward an Ontario Secondary School Diploma are required to write the OSSLT in Grade 10. Successful completion of the OSSLT or OSSLC is a graduation requirement.
The Limestone District School Board is dedicated to ensuring that students receive the support required to be successful in literacy. The links at the left offer explanations of the supports we offer for our students. As well, parents and students can follow links to other resources available on the Internet.
