Kindergarten - A Rainbow of Opportunity: Kindergarten marks a new beginning for you and your child. It is a time of new discoveries and challenges as your child makes the transition from home to school. As parents and as educators we all want to make this transition as smooth as possible. If you do not know your neighbourhood school, check out School Locator on our web site or call our Planning Department at 613-544-6920, extension 305.
Right to Read, Learning to Lead: It is designed for small groups of students in Grades 2 - 6 who require extra support in developing reading comprehension and critical literacy skills.
Choices at Seven: Application information for the Choices at 7 programs will be available in the schools and on the website in March, 2012. The Limestone District School Board Choices at Seven programs offer opportunities for students entering grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their grade 8 year.
Transitions 8-9: The transition from Grade 8 - 9 is one of the most important changes that a student will experience. All of the schools in the Limestone District School Board work very hard to make this transition as smooth as possible. Beginning each January, students, teachers and parents will begin to plan for the following September with different opportunities to determine which choices will be best for the students in Grade 9.
Student Success: Teams will be visiting Grade 8 classrooms and parents will be invited to Grade 8 parent’s nights. Please take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about your secondary school and get answers to any questions you may have. There are also materials available to assist you with this process. Ask your Student Services department for the ‘Exploring the Possibilities Program Planning Guide’ and the brochure called ‘Destinations of Choice’. These are available in all secondary schools in the district.
Amherst Island Science School: Our programs provide a hands-on, outdoor science experience for students in the Limestone District School Board. Sessions run in the fall, winter, and spring for grades K-8.
Summer Programs: The Limestone District School Boards offers remedial summer literacy programs for students in Kindergarten through Grade 10. Students are recommended by their school to attend either the Read-A-Lot Summer Literacy Program (K-6), a Board-subsidized program with a registration fee to off-set the additional costs or the 7-10 Literacy Camp, which is funded by the Ministry of Education. Both programs run concurrently in two-week sessions during July and August at selected elementary and secondary schools.
Lego Robotics: is a multi-year educational project aimed at students in grades four through eight. The goal of the program is to provide students across the Limestone District with the opportunity to participate in a cross-curricular, project-based learning environment that incorporates innovative technology practices.
Extra Curricular: activities allow students to participate in events outside of school hours, in addition to those activities related to school studies. These may include volunteering, student council, sports, crafts, choir and a multitude of other activities. Our schools offer a rich variety of activities to support the specific interests of students in each school.
