Read-A-Lot
Summer Literacy
Program

Read-A-Lot is an intensive three-week intervention program focusing on developing basic skills in reading and writing which will allow students to be more successful in their following school year.

Parents can choose one of two three-week sessions for their child from various sites throughout the district. (Transportation and before-and-after care is not provided.) Our program day is from 8:30 – 2:30 p.m. and we offer recesses, recreational breaks and lots of interactive learning in addition to our focused reading and writing instruction. The program is taught by enthusiastic and skilled instructors with tutor assistance for small groups of students, and is specifically designed to assist those students who are not yet achieving the provincial standard (Level 3) for Language in their grade-level program.

The fee for this program is $250.  Cheques are to be made out to the Limestone District School Board (no post-dated cheques). The registration process for 2012 will take place in May.

For children in grades SK-6 who would benefit from additional support in reading and writing.

Worried that your child will not enjoy a Summer Program?
We surveyed each of our 306 students in 2010 and 90% of them reported that they were
“glad they came to Read-A-Lot”.

And here’s what some parents told us:
  • “This was our son’s second year and he enjoys this program.  His reading has improved and there was feedback from his school teacher to ensure he worked to his best ability.”

  • “My daughter really enjoyed this program.  I was very impressed and all the [teachers] were very friendly!”

  • “This is an awesome program. Thanks for allowing [my son] to be a part of it.  He will be back again next year if it is offered.”

  • “I think the program was very well organized.  My son loved his experience with you.  I am very grateful for all you have done for [him].  I asked my son if he wants to go back next year and he said yes.”

  • “[My daughter] has loved the program and I have noticed that she has matured and learned a lot from it also.  She is excited to get up in the morning and tells me “It has been the best day of my life!” every day.”
