Parent Councils
Welcome to the Parent Council Tool Kit,

Thank you for volunteering! Your willingness to contribute your valuable time to LDSB Parent Councils shows your commitment to the well-being of your child(ren), our students and your school community. Your time and effort is appreciated!

The resources available in the Tool Kit, have been developed to:
  • encourage parent engagement by making volunteering easier
  • help volunteers understand parent council roles and responsibilities
  • suggest council activities based on the school calendar year
  • share ideas
  • augment communication
  • help you have a successful year/term
  • support a smooth transition to new leadership
All documents are designed with a flexible framework to:
  • allow each parent council to make them applicable to their established roles
  • modified each document to suit your school’s needs
  • customize each document to include your school logos and names

The use of these resource materials provided and establishing priorities for your parent council should be based on the current level of council activity, at your school. Pick and choose from the resources, to suit your school and adjust them as necessary to your council’s needs.  Slowly begin to build in new roles, activities and events.

Council goals should represent parent feedback, teacher input and principal/vp priorities. Working together as an inclusive team will help create a positive school environment and cordial partnership which will in turn encourage more parent engagement and promote achieving set outcomes. Focus should be placed on the following priorities as identified by the LDSB:

School – Students, Parents, Administrators, Teachers, & Staff.

Community Building – Offering activities/events to help build a strong sense of school community and encourage parent engagement will enable your school to work towards overarching goals, as a team.

Academics – Offering activities that will enhance student achievement and support curriculum goals and include parents as partners in education.

Partnerships - Includes student council, community groups, donors and other schools and their councils with regards to networking, sharing ideas and resources.

Have a great year!!!
Your valuable input for new ideas and to help keep these documents pertinent is always welcome. Please send your feedback to
